Anne Genetet responds to Senseidesmots who calls for reform

SCHOOL – For several weeks, anger has been brewing among certain middle and high school students who would like to see their school schedules reduced. A feeling channeled in particular by the TikToker @SenseiDesMots, who launched a petition to reform the French education system. Signed more than 285,000 times in a few weeks, the petition attracted the attention of the Minister of Education, who has just responded to the controversy on TikTok.

At the beginning of September, TikToker @SenseiDesMots posted a video on his account in which he rearranges his little college sister’s schedule. The objective is to condense the lessons into the mornings of the week. “ It’s possible, I didn’t delete any material », insists the 28-year-old content creator, supporting proof as you can see in our video at the top of the article.

Quickly viewed more than three million times, the video sparked reactions on the social network, and many young Internet users supported the idea of only having classes in the morning.

A popular petition

Faced with this enthusiasm, Senseidesmots is launching a petition to reform the education system and « improve the learning experience and quality of life » in middle and high school in three points:

  • Take traditional classes (French, Mathematics, History, etc.) in the morning and leave the subjects “more fun and creative” in the afternoon, such as sport, music or even the visual arts.
  • Fight against school bullying and bad behavior by replacing school hours with meditation and reflection classes.
  • Set up open discussion spaces in each establishment so that students can express their feelings.

Soon at the ministry?

In a few weeks, the petition reached almost 300,000 signatures, enough to challenge the Minister of Education Anne Genetet. In a TikTok video published on September 30, she responds to SenseiDesMots point by point, explaining that it will be complicated to change things when the school year has already started.

The new minister ends her video by inviting the TikToker to the ministry to discuss the subject, and claims to be listening and not to have “no taboo”. Could the SenseiDesMots project really see the light of day?
