Announcement of new MacBook equipped with M4 chip imminent… “It will be too late for professional models” Mark Gurman

Since the M4 chip was first introduced in the iPad Pro, interest has been about when M4 will be applied to the Mac Pro. The likely release date for the M4 Mac Pro was October 2024, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman narrowed the expected date a little further.

Gurman reports that an announcement will be made toward the end of the month and that “at least some” will be shipping on November 1. The new Macs previously rumored to be released first are the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac.

Gurman didn’t specify which Macs would be included in “some,” but it has been reported in the past that the M4 Pro version of the Mac mini may not be available at the same time as the base M4. Further speculation based on his report suggests that the November 1st date will apply to the base M4 Mac, with the M4 Pro and Max MacBook Pro to be released later.

Considering that Apple shipped the basic M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max models at the same time when it launched the M3 MacBook Pro last year, it is expected that Apple will apply the same method to the M4 series MacBook Pro and shelve the M4 Pro Mac Mini for other reasons. There is also a possibility.

Gurman also reported that the M4 MacBook Air will be released in the “first half” of 2025. The M4 Mac Studio is scheduled for a mid-2025 release (possibly at WWDC in June), and the Mac Pro is scheduled for a “second half” 2025 release. Then, starting in late 2025, a new cycle of M5 chips being installed on Macs is expected to begin.
