Another Chinese smartphone maker turns to electric cars

Smartphone maker Meizu will launch its first model in China by the end of 2024. It will be based on Geely’s SEA platform and will be called DreamCar MX.

Xiaomi and Huawei will soon have a new rival in the automotive world. It is Meizu which, like its competitors, will soon move from smartphones to four wheelsThe announcement came at ChinaJoy 2024, where Meizu CEO Liao Qinghong said the Meizu Automobile division would be launched by the end of 2024.

And the prospects seem interesting, especially if we consider that the brand is part of the Geely galaxy, already owner of Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, Lynk & Co and Lotus.

Geely as support

Meizu’s models will be based on Geely’s SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform, already used for cars such as the Smart #1 and the Volvo EX30, two models marketed in France.
The first car from the Chinese manufacturer will be called DreamCar MX and will be presented later this year. Chinese media outlet CarNewsChina claims that the design has already been finalized and that the car should be equipped with Meizu FlyMe, a kind of technological bridge between the operating system of a car and that of a smartphone.
The DreamCar MX teaser image also bears some resemblance to the Lynk & Co Z10, a sleek electric sedan from the Geely group brand.
At the same time, Meizu founded the “DreamCar MX” community this year, an interactive platform for fans of the brand where people can exchange ideas and participate in the vehicle design and development process.

Xiaomi’s success inspires

Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s success continues in the world of electric cars. Sold for the equivalent of around 25,000 euros, the SU7 sedan sold more than 10,000 units in June alone, further improving the figures recorded in previous months. The most expensive model does not even exceed the equivalent of 38,000 euros, with performance worthy of the best European electric sedans.
Looking ahead, the Chinese company is on track to reach (and likely exceed) the annual target of 100,000 units.

And it is not excluded that it could include an even more powerful version of the SU7, which could be based on the 1,548 hp Ultra concept that will attempt a record at the Nürburgring next October in order to dethrone Porsche et son Taycan Turbo GT.
