“Another Romanian woman believes she deserves the bronze medal”. How the press from England presents Sabrina Voinea’s intervention in the case of Chiles

British publications comment on Sabrina Voinea’s decision to appeal to the Swiss Federal Court in the case of Chiles – Bărbosu. The Romanian woman seeks justice after the CAS decision.

After the decision given by the Court of Lausanne in the case of Chiles – Bărbosu, the American woman was stripped of the bronze medal won in the floor final of the Olympic Games in Paris and she came in 5th place.

What the English press writes about Sabrina Voinea’s call to TFE

This while the bronze was awarded to the Romanian Ana Bărbosu (18 years old), and Sabrina Voinea (17 years old) came in 4th place.

However, the latter was considered wronged by TAS, after the Swiss rejected the appeal by which they accused that the referees in Hexagon unfairly de-pointed her with 0.1 points for the athlete’s supposed out of bounds.

Recently, Sabrina Voinea decided to appeal to the Swiss Federal Court in the hope of finding justice.

The UK press wrote about this approach, journalists from Daily Mail captioning: “The Jordan Chiles-Ana Bărbosu Olympic medal controversy deepens as another Romanian gymnast appeals to a Swiss court, saying she deserves the bronze medal”.

Then the British they wrote about the fact that Sabrina Voinea will try, through his appeal to the TFE, to take possession of the controversial bronze medal.

“Now, after USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced their intention to challenge the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Maneca-Voinea and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation are also appealing to the Swiss Federal Court, claiming that she was penalized in improperly with 0.1 points for going out of bounds during the floor final.

And if Maneca-Voinea had not been penalized, claims the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, the debate regarding awarding the bronze to either Barbosu or Chiles would have been pointless. Now Maneca-Voinea hopes that the Swiss Federal Court can overturn the TAS decision,” the English journalists wrote.

The Swiss Federal Court accepted Sabrina Voinea’s appeal. When would the case be resolved?

The Romanian Gymnastics Federation sent a statement confirming it the fact that the appeal filed by Sabrina Voinea was received by the Swiss Federal Court.

Sabin Gherdan, the athlete’s lawyer, said that this case would only be resolved towards the end of this year and that at the end of the trial, all three gymnasts are expected to receive a bronze medal each.

“We continue to hope that an amicable way of resolving this case will be reached in the sense that all three gymnasts will receive the bronze medal, a point of view that we have supported from the beginning.

It is normal for the wronged party to take responsibility for proven errors. A traumatic situation has been created for the three gymnasts and we hope that there will be an opening in the sense of an agreement so that a bronze can also go to Sabrina.

It is possible to have a solution by the end of the year, it may extend even longer, it depends on several factors”, said Sabin Gherdan, Sabrina Voinea’s lawyer.
