MADRID – It’s not often that SUV models don’t get a successor. However, it is also possible, and the latest example comes from Seat. Their first and largest SUV, the Tarraco model, has just been retired. Somewhat unexpectedly, six years after its launch, the large SUV retires without a direct successor.

The Spanish twin of the Škoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace models will not see the second generation, but will make room for the new Cupra model. This will confirm speculations that Cupra will grow in the future, while Seat will fall into the background.

“Seat Tarraco was successful. But there will be no successor to Tarrac. From mid-2024, we will focus on the new Cupra Terramar in the segment, which will fill this space very well. Tarraco will then be decommissioned, ending its production by the second quarter of 2024.”said Seat for the British “Autocar”.

The cancellation of this model is expected because it was not mentioned in the last annual report for this year. On the other hand, the Ibiza, Arona, Ateca and Leon – will be upgraded, extending their life cycle to “the end of the era of the internal combustion engine”.

And finally, let’s say that Tarraco was the most successful in 2019 with 29,615 units sold, while already in 2022 sales fell to only 12,872 units. For the sake of comparison, the Škoda Kodiaq was sold in 88,516 units in 2019, “Index” reports.
