The AOC brand is popular among customers for several reasons. First, it almost always offers quality monitors at affordable prices, and besides, AOC is one of the few brands that provide good alternatives even for gamers on a lower budget. The tested novelty U34G3XM represents the middle class of ultra-wide-angle monitors with good specifications and a favorable price.
The monitor uses a 34″ ultra-wide-angle display with an aspect ratio of 21:9, i.e. wider than the classic 16:9 format. This type of monitor was originally designed for multitasking, i.e. the ability to work with two windows on one screen, but their wide-angle display field is also perfect for for looking around in a gaming situation, so it is not surprising that support for these formats in games is becoming more and more common. The monitor uses a VA panel with a latency of 144 Hz and a resolution of 3440 × 1440 pixels. You will find the usual set of cables in the package , the stand and the monitor itself. Mounting the monitor is easy, and in case you don’t have room for a stand, you can use the VESA mount. height adjustment up to 130 mm, swivel ± 30°, tilt -5°/23°, pivot 90° and compatible with VESA 100 x 100 mm.The monitor’s fine matte finish prevents glare and looks very nice with red accents.
Connectivity includes a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports (144 Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 and a headphone output. The monitor has very narrow frames except for the bottom part. At first glance, you can see a sharp image thanks to the WQHD resolution, which is ideal for playing games and multitasking. The image has excellent contrast and bright colors right out of the box. It suits a wide range of users. The refresh rate of 144 Hz eliminates problems such as ghosting or screen tearing, so playing games is smooth, without disturbing artifacts. If you want to use a monitor with a console, it will depend on what console it is. The Nintendo Switch and PS5 don’t have support for ultrawide, which means games will have black bars on the sides. Xbox does support ultrawide though, so Xbox gamers will be happy. PC gamers will, of course, fully enjoy the widescreen display, which offers a 21:9 aspect ratio. Games are generally more immersive on this monitor format, because the human eye is used to panning, and the wide-angle image is thus more natural. This is also helped by the curvature, which makes it possible to maintain a constant distance from all parts of the image so that the vision does not have to overfocus. For creative users, the U34G3XM is a great choice, unless they are extremely demanding on color accuracy. However, the monitor offers a decent color gamut of 100% sRGB and 89% Adobe RGB, which is also excellent for graphic designers and video editors.
The monitor will also satisfy users who need a large desktop, it’s just a shame that the vertical resolution isn’t a bit higher. However, there are plenty of eye protection options on offer, so you can work all day without eye strain. The menu is easy to access and allows quick setting of preferences.
The new AOC U34G3XM is an all-round monitor for anyone looking for a more intense gaming experience, more screen space and great specs at an affordable price. If you’re using a PS5 or Nintendo Switch as your main console, a 16:9 monitor might be better for you. But for other users, this monitor is a good choice. Although there are also minor flaws, in relation to the price it is an interesting choice.
