Apple is working on self-developed WiFi 7 chips for its future products, including the highly anticipated iPhone 17 series, which is planned to be released in the second half of 2025.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from Tianfeng International announced that these new chips will be produced using TSMC’s N7 process. This is a critical step in Apple’s efforts to improve ecosystem integration and reduce dependence on third-party suppliers.
This strategic shift aims to not only reduce costs but also improve the overall integration of Apple devices. DigiTimes also reported that some of Apple’s new iPads launching in 2025 may also feature these homegrown WiFi chips. This underscores the company’s commitment to in-house component design, a project that has reportedly been in development since 2021.
The push for home-designed WiFi technology dovetails with Apple’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on outside suppliers. Apple currently has a deal with Broadcom for WiFi chips, and if successful, it could improve the performance and efficiency of its devices.
