Although the Apple Watch was presented during the iPhone launch event in September 2014, the actual marketing took place only in April 2015. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman speculated as early as 2023 that Apple was preparing an Apple Watch “X,” with a revamped design and a magnetic attachment system for the straps. Although larger displays and a thinner case arrived in September 2024, the name “Apple Watch X” did not materialize, nor did the magnetic docking system.
