As it is a growing market, it was speculated that Apple could be planning to develop a smart ring. However, the executive director of the leading company in this segment shared that the Cupertino giant is not expected to launch its own model, as “it is a difficult category to get right”.
Oura has been exploring the smart rings market for over 10 years, positioning itself above other brands that are more popular in other segments.
After Samsung invested in the world of smart rings, with the Galaxy Ring, it was expected that Apple would also enter the race. However, following speculation, this does not appear to be planned.
Second Tom Haleexecutive director of the technology company Oura, which leads in the area of smart rings, Apple has no plans to launch a smart ring.
A smart ring signed by Apple could undermine its business
In an interview at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Tom Hale said that Apple is not convinced that there are big advantages to having a smart ring and a watch. Furthermore, the company must not want to introduce a product capable of competing with the Apple Watch, which is an authentic health monitoring center.
Despite believing that Apple may be catching up with companies like Oura and Samsung on this issue, Hale stressed that this "is a difficult category to get right".
After all, unlike smartwatches, which can be bulky and require frequent charging, smart rings are compact and designed to be worn all day, including while sleeping.
Additionally, they use a variety of sensors to monitor metrics such as heart rate, activity levels and sleep quality, offering a lightweight alternative for users who find smartwatches less comfortable.
For the well-known Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, the introduction of a smart ring could cannibalize the success of the Apple Watch, considering that this is an emblematic product. By keeping the watch, Apple avoids potentially undermining its own market.
