Apple has made changes to its maps ahead of the Olympics

This Friday – July 26 – the Olympic Games in Paris will begin. In connection with this, Apple has made several changes to its maps.

All points of interest are displayed as custom locations, meaning they have been added as hand-crafted 3D landmarks.

Iconic locations like the Gare de l’Est, Pont d’Iéna and Place de la Madeleine are also rendered with greater detail, and for the first time, the Maps app displays locations that include temporary venues, gift shops and public meeting areas. Support for pop-up locations will help attendees find important locations for the summer games.

All of the competition and ceremony locations have special icons to help visitors find where they need to be, and Apple says Maps will show all the latest updates on road closures and advisories because of the games, which will help users navigate the city. There are curated Map Guides for restaurants, hotels, and shops, with dozens of new Guides from Le Bonbon, Le Fooding, Radio France, Madame Figaro, and My Little Paris.

Football matches will begin on July 24, while badminton, handball, rowing, volleyball, fencing, field hockey, shooting, diving and gymnastics will begin on July 27. The event is scheduled to conclude on August 11.
