Apple Intelligence on iPhone now requires 7 GB of free space, according to Apple support site. In October 2024, 4 GB was enough.
The increase in system requirements is due to the fact that iOS 18.2 released a major update to Apple Intelligence, which added ChatGPT integration, as well as Genmoji, Image Playground and Visual Intelligence features.
Most of these features run directly on the device, so the system needs to download the appropriate AI models to use them.
The company has not yet added all the Apple Intelligence features presented at WWDC 2024. After their release, even more free space on the device will be required.
Currently, in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, you can’t selectively disable Apple Intelligence features to free up space on your device. (9to5Mac)
