Apple is claiming a stake in ChatGPT’s future

Apple’s approach to the modern artificial intelligence craze sweeping the tech industry differs from how other manufacturers perceive this shift. Although Apple Intelligence is not that single feature that will convince users to buy an iPhone, it has brought many AI features to the iPhone franchise, partnering with the world’s most established names in this field.

Apple works with OpenAI’s ChatGPTfor example, to bring a friendlier Siri to iPhone 15 Pro and above users that you can actually chat with. This partnership with ChatGPT has already brought data sharing under scrutiny, and Apple now wants to stake a claim on ChatGPT’s future by investing in OpenAI.

Now Wall Street Journal sources are reporting that Apple and NVIDIA will throw their weight behind OpenAI’s next funding round. Microsoft already invested $13 billion in OpenAI in 2019 and now owns a 49% stake in the company’s future earnings.

This next round of funding is expected to bring OpenAI’s value close to $100 billion, the largest valuation of a pure advanced AI medium to date. Apple apparently intends to tie its AI efforts to ChatGPT in the long run, and build on the extension, correction, and emoji creation of the Siri assistant it helps provide to begin with.

NVIDIA, on the other hand, has been struggling to emerge through this technology, as its AI chipsets have propelled it to the most valuable company position in the world since ChatGPT uttered its first generative words, much to the chagrin of many others all over the world.

It’s unclear how much Apple plans to invest in OpenAI as talks continue, but the iPhone 16 unveiling on September 9 should give a clearer idea of how much it will focus on the devices’ AI functions in general and those aided by ChatGPT in particular.
