Apple is failing. It has failed in one of the major markets and is no longer part of the big five

  • Apple has long been among the three largest mobile phone manufacturers
  • It is even the clear number one in some markets
  • However, this is not the case in China, where wheat has not been blooming lately

Apple has not been doing well in China for a long time

From a global perspective, Apple is number two in mobile, just behind its arch-nemesis, Samsung. At the beginning of this year, it even climbed to the position of global number one (but now Samsung is in the lead again), however, there is a market where it has not been doing very well recently and has now even dropped out of the top five. It’s probably no surprise that that market is China.

The Chinese market is growing, Apple is falling

The mobile market in China is quite specific and many things work differently than in the rest of the world. That’s also why it thrives on it, for example Huawei, which elsewhere in the world, due to the absence of Google services, does not even make the cut. In China it doesn’t matter Google more or less no one needs the services there, and Huawei can therefore boast, within this market, very good sales and second place.

Complete statistics of the Chinese market published server IDC, the figures refer to the second quarter of this year, and according to them, phone sales in China rose by 8.9% year-on-year. This is definitely a very good result and reflects the current trend, where the mobile market has stabilized a bit and it looks like it is slowly starting to look better. And how did manufacturers in China do?

Apple disappeared from the top 5

The brand is number one in China Vivo, which improved by 17.1% year-on-year and holds a total of 18.5% of the local market. Breathing on its back is the already mentioned Huawei, which showed a huge year-on-year increase of 50.2% and owns 18.1% of the market. Another traditional Chinese brand completes the top three with a share of 15.7% Oppowhich worsened by 2.8% year-on-year.

And you messed up the fourth one too Honor, which fell by 3.7% compared to Q2 2023 and now holds 14.5% of the market. The top five is rounded off with a share of 14% and a year-on-year increase of 16.5%, the traditional brand in the form Xiaomi. As for Apple, it has deteriorated by 3.1%, it belongs to the sixth position and its share is below the 14% limit.

Apple has not been doing well in China for a long time

The fact is that it does Apple in the long term, the Chinese market is not doing as well as he would have imagined, and he can only be pleased with the fact that Samsung it’s even worse. In the past, the South Korean giant was among the giants in China as well, but now its sales are on the margin of statistical error and it has a market share of less than 1%. Perhaps that is why Samsung recently introduced a new line of Galaxy C phones, which is designed exclusively for the Chinese market. We’ll see if it kicks up his sales.
