Apple is thinking of a Smart Home display inspired by the iMac G4

Apple could also bring its iconic style to the world of smart homewith a new device smart home control inspired by the timeless design of the iMac G4. According to the latest rumours shared by Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to launch a display with a refined and functional design in 2025, aimed at offering a new experience at home.

Apple’s new smart device is expected to have a hemispherical base that will support a small, tilted screen, similar in aesthetics to the iMac G4 launched twenty years ago. This retro look, although a tribute to the past, integrates a number of advanced features, ideal for modern smart homes. The choice of a smaller display – “as big as two iPhones side by side”, according to Gurman – would be motivated by the aim of maintaining an affordable price, allowing users to place multiple units in different rooms.

Apple seems to be aiming for a device that integrates the features of FaceTime, Notes, Calendar and a hub for smart home controlperfect for managing lighting, security and other connected devices. According to rumors, there will be the possibility of using the display for photo and video slideshows, making the device also ideal as a digital frame to personalize any environment. Furthermore, Gurman highlights the probable presence of speakers integrated into the base, transforming the device also into a piccolo HomePodready to provide quality music and audio.

The project would not stop at this first model. Apple is in fact developing an advanced version of the smart display, equipped with a larger screen mounted on a robotic arm. This arm would have the ability to follow users’ movements in the room, recognizing people and offering a more immersive and dynamic experience. However, according to forecasts, this model will only arrive in 2026, with a price of around $1,000.
