A story as old as time. So what if the basic version of the equipment is cheap, if increasing the memory costs a thousand zlotys extra? So what happened that suddenly this company allows you to do it on your own?
Hell has frozen over, apparently in the latest Mac mini model with Apple’s M4 processor you can replace the memory chip yourself. There are more and more photos and recordings showing disassembled computers on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Has Apple really forgotten itself? Or maybe it’s not so colorful?
Twitter, YouTube and even iFixit show photos and videos showing the inside of a brand new Mac mini M4 with memory that is not soldered to the motherboard. This is a refreshing sight, after years of designs that were very unfriendly to home DIY enthusiasts. Did Apple finally reach out to its fans and forget to inform about it?
As you can see in the photo, it actually looks quite promising. The tile in the very center must have previously been in the vacant space at the bottom of the photo. It is therefore not surprising that a user of the X platform (formerly Twitter) reacted this way. That is, it is not surprising, but the problem is that it is not known whether he is just feigning ignorance, looking for ranges, or whether he is actually unaware of the difficulties behind replacing this element in the Apple mini computer. However, just scroll down a few comments and you’ll be right out of the bag. When commenters started to pay attention to this memory, the author of the tweet started to say that he was talking about internal memory, not just SSD.
Commenters, as well as portals dealing with the topic (such as appleinsider), point out that the matter is neither easy nor obvious. This is not just any random SSD memory. This particular item is custom-made and available exclusively from its official source. To open this equipment and assemble it, you also need specialist knowledge and it is better not to do it on your own. Especially if we need cheaper, larger memory. The market is currently saturated with proven and cheaper solutions than Apple’s.
