In June 2022, the first Apple Store workers union in the U.S. was formed in Towson, Maryland, kicking off long and grueling negotiations over working conditions. Now, the two sides have finally reached an agreement.
The union representatives announced that they had reached a three-year contract with Apple, which includes a pay increase (an average of 10% over the duration of the contract), clearer disciplinary procedures, and an improved work schedule that provides employees with a better work-life balance. They will also keep all their current benefits and be able to negotiate additional ones during the contract.
The agreement still needs to be officially approved by a majority of union members. The vote on this matter is scheduled for August 6. It is worth recalling that just two months ago, union representatives threatened to strike, accusing Apple of falsifying reports on working conditions and illegal practices aimed at intimidating employees and punishing them for trying to organize.
