According to Mark Gurman’s latest report in his newsletter Power On, Apple would be ready to launch an economical version of the viewer Vision Pro as early as next year, with an expected price of around $2,000.
After the debut ofApple Vision Pro at a cost of $3,499 earlier this year, Apple seemed to quickly focus on one less expensive version. Previous reports indicated that development of the Vision Pro 2 had been temporarily put on hold to focus on a more affordable device.
The need for a cheaper headset is clear: the price of the Vision Pro makes it unaffordable for many, limiting the diffusion of technologies spatial computing introduced by Apple.
Gurman says the new budget headset will likely use a less powerful processor and cheaper materials. Currently, the Vision Pro is equipped with the chip M2but it is likely that the cheapest headset will be equipped with a processor from the series Alike theA18 Prowhich offers performance similar to that of the chip M1.
In terms of materials, there is likely to be a higher presence of plastic than the premium aluminum and glass used in the Vision Pro, which will help reduce overall costs.
One of the innovations introduced in Vision Pro it’s the function EyeSightwhich allows the user’s eyes to be viewed via external lenticular displays, allowing anyone around to see a simulation of the wearer’s eyes. However, this feature, while interesting, was considered quite expensive and unnecessary for a cheaper device. Gurman confirms that EyeSight will probably be eliminated in the new headset.
Gurman predicts the new affordable headset will sell double compared to Vision Proalthough this is not a very high estimate. The Vision Pro’s price has certainly limited sales, but a more accessible model could push more users to experiment with it augmented reality and technologies spatial computing of Apple.
Furthermore, Gurman adds that the Vision Pro 2which is expected to arrive in 2026, will feature an even faster processor, continuing Apple’s tradition of constantly improving the performance of its devices.
