Apple ready to launch the “Command Center” for the smart home in March 2025

Apple has a new smart home device which could revolutionize the way we manage the home environment. According to Mark Gurman on Bloombergby March 2025 the company will launch a six-inch AI displayi which will act as home command center. Designed to deliver complete control over smart devicesApple’s Command Center will promise intuitive home management, strong integration with Siri and advanced security features.

This smart display is expected to be similar to an iPad, but with a square shape and thick bezels. The front camera lets you make FaceTime calls, while the small internal speakers offer audio for music and notifications. Equipped with built-in rechargeable batterythe device will be available in black and silver colorsto easily adapt to domestic environments.

The operating system is inspired by the iPhone’s StandBy mode and watchOS, with a touch interface that favors the voice control via Siri. Apple has optimized the Command Center to manage applications and functions based on App Intents, the system that enables Siri to manage activities in apps such as weather, calendar, news, music and home control.

Il main display will offer the possibility to configure widgets that show useful information such as the weather, calendar events, a photo slideshow or controls for home devices. It will also be possible to access a virtual dock to launch apps quickly, while systems placed in different rooms can function as an intercom, improving internal communication between family members.

Apple also focuses heavily on security: the Command Center can show notifications from connected cameras and security alerts. Thanks to integrated sensors, the device detects the distance of nearby people and changes the interface accordingly. For example, if no one is nearby, it might only show the temperature; as someone gets closer, they may activate the controls for the thermostat.

Apple is also considering the use of external sensors which connect to power outlets to monitor presence and movements in rooms. However, it is not yet clear whether or not the company will produce these sensors as part of an additional set.

In addition to managing your home, the device will include several Apple apps such as Safari, Apple News, Apple Music, Notes, Calendar and Photos, although it will not have a dedicated App Store. Accessories will be available such as a plate to fix it to the wall or a base with additional speakers to use it as the nerve center of the home.

With the Command Center, Apple is preparing to seriously compete with giants like Amazon and Google, which already dominate the market with devices like the Echo Hub and Nest Hub Max. Apple will probably be forced to keep the price competitive, considering that the Echo Hub is available at $150 and Nest Hub Max at $230 in the US. Furthermore, this device represents only the beginning: if the Command Center is successful, Apple could launch other accessories for the smart home, including a possible security camera by 2026, as suggested by Ming-Chi Kuo.
