Apple showed a secret laboratory in which AirPods Pro 2 with hearing aid function were tested

Apple showed off its secret audio laboratory Fantasia Lab on TV ABC.

This is a small and inconspicuous building. Inside it is a room that was used to test the hearing aid function of the AirPod Pro 2.

It is completely lined with sound-absorbing panels. In the center of it there is a chair, which is surrounded by a dome of dozens of columns. They play sounds from hundreds of different scenarios to test how voice recognition works.

The ABC journalist had the sound of a noisy restaurant turned on, where she could hear the clinking of plates, cutlery and conversations at the tables. The engineers then added “speakers” and asked her to repeat what they were saying.

Similarly, tests were carried out in this room with other people who have real hearing problems.

The journalist was also shown “one of the quietest rooms on the planet.” It has its own foundation, all walls, ceiling and bottom are lined with acoustic foam, and the floor is made of stainless steel mesh. Cuba Mazur, Apple’s lead hearing health engineer, said some people can hear their heartbeat when the room is closed.

iOS 18.1 with hearing aid functionality will be released on October 28. The corresponding update for AirPods Pro 2 is already available.
