Apple stops syncing Safari bookmarks on iOS 10 and MacOs Sierra: here’s what changes

Apple announced that as of December 18, 2024devices with iOS 10 or earlier and macOS Sierra 10.12.5 They will no longer be able to sync Safari bookmarks via iCloud. This decision was made to comply with the minimum requirements of the software systems supported by the company.

Users with affected devices will not lose bookmarks already saved on their devices. However:

  • New bookmarks will not be synced to other devices tramite iCloud.
  • Bookmarks will not be recoverable via iCloud.commaking manual export necessary to store them safely.

Apple recommends that users update their devices to later versions of iOS and macOS to continue using the sync service.

To continue syncing your Safari bookmarks, Apple suggests updating to iOS 11 or later per iPhone, iPad e iPod touch. e macOS Sierra 10.12.6 or later per Mac.

If your device is not upgradeable, you can andexport favorites manually or save them locally to access it in the future without depending on iCloud.

This decision comes alongside another Apple announcement: the end of support for iCloud backups on devices running iOS 8 or earlier. Both changes will take effect on December 18, 2024, highlighting Apple’s desire to streamline its services and focus on newer technologies like CloudKit, which provides greater efficiency and security.
