Apple TV + gives new year bonuses. Free streaming weekend for originals

After several days to promiseApple finally confirmed today that Apple TV+ will be free for everyone this weekend. Between January 4th and 5th, users can view all Apple Originals without the need for a subscription.

This free weekend promotion will help build awareness for the service at the start of the new year, with big releases like Severance season two starting later this month.

To stream for free, simply open the Apple TV app on a compatible platform between January 4th and 5th.

And for 2025?

Apple TV+ enters 2025 with a stronger catalog than ever (more than 250 original television shows and movies in total) and a compelling slate of new titles already announced, but it continues to struggle to gain a significant audience. While Apple itself doesn't release numbers, Apple originals have only appeared on Nielsen's US streaming charts a handful of times in 2024.

Apple TV+ is available in Portugal and offers a 7-day free trial periodafter which the monthly subscription costs €9.99. Additionally, you can share your subscription with up to five family members using the Family Sharing feature.

For anyone purchasing an Apple device, such as an iPhone, iPad or Mac, the Apple offers 3 free months of Apple TV+as long as the offer is activated within 90 days of purchase.

In 2024, Apple TV+ continued to expand its catalog with series that won over both critics and the public. Although Apple does not officially release viewing figures, some productions have stood out for their popularity and acclaim.

Here are some of the most notable series of the year:

  • Silo: A science fiction series that explores the life of an underground community in a post-apocalyptic world. The second season, released in 2024, expanded the series' universe and deepened its intrigues.
  • Presumed Innocent: This legal drama, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, became the most watched drama series on the platform, leading to its renewal for a second season.
  • Dark Matter: Based on the novel by Blake Crouch, this sci-fi series explores parallel universes and has received significant praise, warranting a renewal for a second season.
  • Slow Horses: The fourth season of this spy thriller, starring Gary Oldman, has kept the series among Apple TV+'s most popular, with an impressive 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • Shrinking: This comedy-drama, starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, won over audiences with its sincere and humorous take on therapy and therapists' personal lives.

These are some of many productions. Currently, the video streaming platform has more than 200 titles.
