Apple updates the AirPods Pro 2 with important new features

After updating almost all of its AirPods models and being on the verge of iOS 18.1, one of the most important updates in the history of the iPhone, Apple has also launched a important app update for AirPods Pro 2. The new AirPods Pro 2 firmware has a build number of 7B19.

News of the 7B19 update of the AirPods Pro 2

The new firmware for the AirPods Pro 2 arrives just before launching the hearing health features in iOS 18.1. Hearing health includes a hearing test that mimics an audiologist’s test, also offering hearing aid functionality should that test indicate mild to moderate hearing loss. So the new features included in this update are important:

When used with an iPhone or iPad running iOS 18.1 or iPadOS 18.1 or later, AirPods Pro 2 with firmware update 7B19 enable three new features: a hearing test, a headset, and hearing protection.

Apple’s hearing test feature provides scientifically validated hearing test results from the comfort of home (intended for users 18 years and older).

The hearing aid feature provides personalized, clinical-grade assistance that is automatically applied to the sounds in your environment, as well as music, videos and calls (intended for users 18 years and older with mild to moderate perceived hearing loss) .

The hearing protection feature helps users minimize exposure to loud ambient noise in all listening modes (available in the United States and Canada).

How to update AirPods Pro 2

Updating AirPods to the latest version of firmware is not as easy as updating an iPhone to the latest version of iOS. The first thing you should do is check what firmware version you have: connect AirPods to iPhone > open Settings > tap on the AirPods menu. If 7B19 appears it means they are already updated.

If they haven’t already, make sure they are inside the charging case and connect the case to a charger. The AirPods must be connected to an iOS device which, in turn, is connected to the internet to update. Although there is no exact time for the update, If you leave your AirPods near your iPhone for a while, they will update automatically. Having both the iOS device and the AirPods with 100% battery life makes the update process easier. Although if you wait a few days, your AirPods will surely update themselves.

Firmware updates are delivered periodically while your AirPods are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

The latest AirPods updates had focused on fixing bugs and improving performance, but this update is different since it includes important improvements. This is a first step in hearing health features that Apple can implement in AirPods, since in future versions we could have health sensors in Apple headphones.
