Apple users with an M4 Mac are encountering this problem

More and more people are using Apple’s M4 Mac models, making certain issues more visible. Complaints can be found on various forums about the connection between computers and external monitors.

Both on het Apple Community forum as on websites like Reddit complaints can be found about the M4 Mac. The complaints mainly concern connection problems between the computers and ultrawide monitors. Models with a 5K resolution (5120 x 2160) in particular have difficulty displaying the correct resolution.

The most common complaint is that external ultrawide monitors do not display the correct resolution when connected to an M4 Mac. This results in a blurry interface, where, for example, texts are more difficult to read.

Is the problem with the M4 Mac or the monitor?

With such problems the question is always what the cause is. In the case of this complaint, it seems to mainly come from Apple’s M4 Mac models. For example, several users report that the 5K displays function well with older Macs with Apple Silicon or Intel chips on board.

The M4 Mac Mini and the M4 MacBook Pro in particular are mentioned when it comes to these problems. These Mac models lack the HiDPI option. Apps like BetterDisplay ensure that these options are visible again, but not in the way intended. For example, this way the refresh rate drops from 75 Hz to 60 Hz.

It is not yet known whether Apple is aware of the problems, but given the volume of complaints, there is a good chance that the company is already working on a solution.
