Apple introduced new products earlier this week, led by the iPhone 16. Traditionally, the September Keynote is always on a Tuesday. That changed this year, and the performance took place already on Monday, and according to official information, it was because of the American presidential debate. However, another explanation appeared in the corridors. Apple reportedly didn’t want to unveil the new iPhone 16 on the same day it threatened to lose a lawsuit. And that really happened. Apple he has to pay a huge fine.

Apple received another huge fine

Europe’s highest court ruled against Apple on Tuesday in a decades-long legal battle over how informs agency Reuters. What was it about? Apple has its headquarters in Ireland for the whole of Europe, where, according to the European Commission, Apple received illegal tax benefits from Ireland.

The court already decided in 2016 that the company must pay Ireland 13 billion euros (approx. 325 billion crowns), which is supposed to be the amount owed in taxes. Paradoxically, Ireland also appealed against this decision. Subsequently, the dispute dragged on for another long 8 years, when individual EU bodies alternately decided on the guilt and innocence of Apple. Only now has the dispute reached the European Court of Justice, which has decided that Apple must pay the aforementioned amount.

This is not the first fine for Apple

The decision came just hours after the company introduced new products to revive its iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods lines. And in response, Apple shares also fell about 1%.

It’s certainly not the first fine that Apple has received from the EU. Most recently, in March, the commission fined Apple an antitrust fine of 1.8 billion euros (45 billion crowns) for abusing its dominant position on the market for the distribution of music streaming applications.
