Siri has really lived up to expectations since its introduction in 2011, but Apple is reportedly working to bring its digital assistant on par with rivals like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is preparing to revamp Siri with more capable generative AI features and augment it with an in-house AI large language model (LLM).
Gurman states that Apple will update Siri gradually, and the first update will be the ChatGPT integration that will come to Siri in December this year. This significant addition is described as a “workaround” for Siri and is intended to buy Apple more time until its LLM and generative AI feature is ready to be fully integrated.
Gurman also suggests that Apple is likely to announce its new Siri engine at WWDC in June 2025, while regular users should expect to see this version of Siri in Spring 2026 with the release of iOS 19.4.
