Apple won’t be able to launch Apple Intelligence in China without partnering with local companies

Apple will have to implement language models developed by Chinese companies into Apple Intelligence, reports Financial Times. This is the easiest way for a company to launch Apple Intelligence in China as quickly as possible.

If Apple wants to use its own language model, it will have to undergo lengthy and complex testing, which no foreign company has yet managed.

Apple has been in talks with Chinese technology companies for months to integrate their technology into Apple Intelligence. Discussions about cooperation were held with Baidu, ByteDance and Moonshot. The latter developed the Kimi AI chatbot, popular in China. Analysts believe that in an ideal outcome, Apple Intelligence could launch in China in the second half of 2025.
