Apple working on a film about the FTX crack and founder Sam Bankman-Fried

Apple e A24 are collaborating on a film about the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried. According to what we learn from Varietythe screenplay will be written by Lena Dunhamknown for her work on the HBO series Girls, which earned her numerous Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe.

The film will be based on the book Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a
New Tycoon
Of Michael Lewiswhich chronicles Bankman-Fried’s rise and subsequent discovery of missing funds, culminating in fraud charges.

Sam Bankman-Fried was the founder and CEO of FTX, becoming the protagonist of one of the largest financial collapses in the history of cryptocurrencies. The exchange was founded in 2019, becoming one of the leading cryptocurrency exchange platforms in the following years. In November 2022, an investigation revealed that Alameda Researchanother company run by Bankman-Fried, was heavily dependent on FTT, the token issued by FTX. This tie-up raised doubts about the company’s financial strength and led to a wave of customer withdrawals.

FTX was unable to cover the $8 billion needed to meet customer demands and filed for bankruptcy. It later emerged that Bankman-Fried had used client funds to finance speculative trades and personal expenses. This led to his arrest in the Bahamas in December 2022 and his extradition to the United States, where he was charged with fraud and other financial crimes.

The film project is still in the early stages of development and therefore not many additional details are available. Apple and A24 have collaborated in the past on films such as On the Rocks and The Tragedy of Macbeth for Apple TV+.

The Apple and A24 project is not the only one in the pipeline regarding the FTX affair: Amazon has already ordered a limited series in 2022 and there would be, according to Variety, at least one other streaming service that is working on a series. Apple would have been in the past, according to some rumours, very close to securing the exclusive rights to Michael Lewis’ works, but there has been no further information on the possible agreement.
