Apple Intelligence doesn’t seem to be driving new users into the iPhone buying base.
At last year’s WWDC, Apple presented its AI engine called Apple Intelligence, which, according to the marketing text, can do everything except prepare your breakfast. Already after WWDC, there were problems with it, as the new iPhones arrived without the AI toolbox, and there are still some promised features that are not available. Partly because of this, partly because of the rise of rivals, but Apple Intelligence cannot sell phones.
A on his own blog a market analyst Min-Chu Kuo reported that the introduction of the AI engine did not bring sales results for Apple. According to Kuo’s market insiders, most consumers didn’t see any value in the Intelligence system, and while there was some buzz around the toolbox after WWDC 2024, it quickly died as ChatGPT and its peers took the air out of it.
Kuo specifically talked about the fact that the majority is drawn towards cloud-based AI services instead of Apple’s hardware-bound solution, which is also too slow to arrive. 18.1 brought the ability to summarize texts, 18.2 brought Genmoji, the image editor and ChatGPT integration, but meanwhile Siri’s screen reading and other features still didn’t work.
Apple is facing big challenges while the market is less and less interested. It will be interesting to watch how Apple Intelligence evolves in the coming years.
