Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Pixel banned in Indonesia

Apple iPhone and Google Pixel are allowed no longer are sold in Indonesia. Google has also not complied with the rule that at least 40 percent of devices sold must be produced locally or contain local parts.

Bhima Yudhistira, director of the think tank the Center of Economic and Law Studies, calls Indonesia’s move pseudo-protectionism that harms consumers.

Nasty reportedly Apple now wants to invest $10 million in a new factory in Bandung, Jakarta and thus lift the ban.

Google and Apple are not among the top smartphone brands in Indonesia. In the first quarter, the largest smartphone suppliers in the country were Chinese company Oppo and South Korea’s Samsung, according to data from research firm IDC.

It is not prohibited to order iPhones and Pixels abroad, as long as import duties are paid.
