In December 2024, various series and film highlights will come to ARD Media library. The range is colorful, from children’s classic remakes to the Hape Kerkeling anniversary to the reassessment of the male sexual organ. An overview.
Ronja the Robber’s Daughter (series)
Sweden, sometime in the Middle Ages. Ronja (Kerstin Linden) grows up as the daughter of the notorious robber captain Mattis (Christopher Wagelin), who lives in an impregnable castle with his wife Lovis (Krista Kosonen) and his gang. Ronja loves the free robber life and explores the forest on her own. But one day Birk Borkason (Jack Bergenholtz Henriksson), the son of rival robber captain Borka (Sverrir Gudnason), finds himself on the other side of the Hellmouth. Although Ronja’s father forbids any contact with the hated “Borkas”, Ronja makes friends with the boy. Meanwhile, in the nearby village, resentment is growing over the raids and the inaction of the corrupt bailiff Halvert (Peter Viitanen). The powerful Valdir (Pernilla August) hires the warrior Smavis (Agnes Rase) to ensure security. In order to force Mattis to give up, she relies on a secret plan in which Ronja plays a crucial role.
The six-part remake of the 1984 children’s film classic, which in turn is based on Astrid Lindgren’s book, will be available in the ARD media library from December 20th. The episodes will be broadcast linearly on Erste from December 25th, 8:15 p.m. and December 26th, 5:45 p.m.
Hape Kerkeling – Totally normal (documentary)
Hape Kerkeling will be 60 years old on December 9, 2024. ARD is celebrating its milestone birthday with a cross-media themed day and the documentary “Hape Kerkeling – Totally normal”, which invites you to take a cinematic journey into the professional and personal cosmos of Hans-Peter Kerkeling. The film is also an entertaining tour through the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, in which Hape Kerkeling wrote television history like no other – and reinvented himself again and again. Those speaking include Campino, Anke Engelke, Günther Jauch, Angelika Milster, Rosa von Praunheim, Tahnee, Isabel Varell, Otto Waalkes, Julius Weckauf and Judy Winter.
In the ARD media library there is also a reunion with many Kerkeling classics such as “Club Las Piranjas”, “Willi and the Windsors”, “Gisbert” (six episodes), “Kein Pardon” and “Samba in Mettmann”.
The documentary about Hape Kerkeling will be available in the ARD media library from December 5th and will be broadcast on TV on December 9th at 8:15 p.m.
Poker – Who benefits from the big bluff? (Documentation)
A click, a noise – and the virtual cards flicker across the screen. Online poker promises the thrill of winning big from the comfort of your sofa. But behind this seemingly harmless pastime lies a complex system in which more players are involved than one might think at first glance. Millions of euros change hands there every day. Since 2021, the State Treaty for the New Regulation of Gambling in Germany (GlüStV) has created a framework to combat gambling addiction and control the market. Are the regulations sufficient to protect players from the dark side of online poker? The film delves into the complex world of poker – with its new heroes, prominent players and lots of money.
In the ARD media library from December 4th, on Erste on January 7th, 2025, 10:50 p.m.
My body, my penis – How much penis does a man need? (Documentation)
“There were young men, soldiers in their early 20s, who had lost legs on both sides, but also lost their penises. And they all said across the board: The leg problem isn’t nearly as bad a problem. But they don’t want to live without their penis,” reports urologist Dr. Saskia Morgenstern from her practice. Would you rather live without legs than without a penis? At the latest when it doesn’t work or look the way it should, it becomes clear how identity-forming the penis is. The film follows three very different men who openly talk about their relationship with the penis and their problems with it. What can and should men and penises be like today? And do you always need a penis to be a man?
The documentary will be available in the ARD media library from December 3rd.
Passenger (Mystery-Serie)
In Chadder Vale, northern England, teenager Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson) mysteriously disappears one night. Except for police officer Riya Ajunwa (Wunmi Mosaku), no one suspects anything unusual. And sure enough, Katie shows up again a day later as if nothing had happened. While the young woman remains silent about her disappearance, Riya finds Katie’s badly dented car in the forest and begins to investigate. The discovery of a deer carcass and a black liquid at the scene of the accident pose additional mysteries. Riya quickly suspects there is a connection to the disappearance of another young woman and she increasingly senses that something sinister is going on in the forests around Chadder Vale.
