For years, many South Tyroleans wanted to be able to use German-language television programs on their smartphones and tablets. This wish has now been fulfilled by the RAS.
Who is the RAS?
The South Tyrol Broadcasting Corporation is hidden behind the abbreviation. It is a public broadcasting company that distributes primarily German-language TV and radio programs in South Tyrol. In South Tyrol it broadcasts via DVB-T in addition to the four ORF TV channels, Das Erste, ZDF, Bavarian Television, ZDF Neo, 3sat, Arte, Kika, as well as SRF1 and 2 from Switzerland, as well as Servus TV. Of course everything is free and everything is in HD.
Which channels does the new RAS app offer?
With the new streaming app from RAS, South Tyroleans can now use the public television programs from Germany and Austria, which RAS also distributes via DVB-T, on their mobile devices. So ORF1, ORF2 Tirol, ORF3, ORFSport+, Das Erste, ZDF, Bayerisches Fernsehen, ZDF Neo, 3sat, Arte and Kika. You can now use these channels on your smartphone and tablet while traveling in South Tyrol.
How do you get to the RAS app?
The new RAS app provides mobile access to 11 TV programs from Germany and Austria in South Tyrol. The RAS app is now available for download from the Google Play Store and the App Store. However, it only grants access to the programs if you are within South Tyrol. Outside, such as in Austria, when you call up a station you will see that you are outside South Tyrol.
What else does the RAS app offer?
The RAS app also offers an EPG for the eleven TV programs. It is used to display additional information about current or subsequent programs. It also offers an overview of all programs currently running. At least this option works for us too.
There is another highlight
The RAS app also provides direct access to all 81 RAS weather webcams. In addition to current pictures, you can also watch great time-lapse films here. Not just in South Tyrol, but also here!
