Are you staying on Windows 10? Microsoft will ask you for money for security updates

For the first time ever, Microsoft is offering additions to the Microsoft Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for regular users as well. Both Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro users will receive security updates for the next 12 months. However, Microsoft will charge a $30 fee for this.

The offer is only valid for one year, commercial or educational institutions can use this program for the following two years. The extended program of updates for consumers should cost CZK 699 without tax.

Windows 10 is still used by more users than Windows 11. According to statistics, about twice as many, and this ratio changes little. Both versions of Windows still get a number of new features, and not all computers can officially switch to Windows 11.

Microsoft has behaved similarly with previous versions of Windows and there is nothing very special about it. No one expects support for, for example, Windows 7 anymore, although it would certainly still be useful for some users. For example, ESU (not for end customers) for Windows 7 Pro ended just last year.

The Extended Security Update (ESU) program is a last resort for customers who need to run some older Microsoft products after support has ended. They are not intended as a long-term solution, but rather as a temporary help to ensure security while the user migrates from them to a newer, supported platform. Includes critical or important security updates. ESUs do not include new features. The ESU program does not extend the life cycle of the product or extend technical support for the product beyond its life cycle.
