Argentine director Daniel Fanego dies at 69

Actor and director Daniel Fanego has passed away at the age of 69, the Argentine Actors Association (AAA) confirmed on Thursday. “It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our member and former union leader, actor and director Daniel Fanego. With extensive experience in theatre, television and film, he was one of the most beloved and award-winning actors of his generation. We send our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones, accompanying them in this difficult time,” AAA posted on its social media.

He also reported that Fanego’s “farewell” will be “this Friday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Buenos Aires Legislature.”

Although the cause of his death was not disclosed, it was known that Fanego had some health problems that had been bothering him for some time.

Although he studied law, in the mid-1970s he decided to devote himself entirely to acting, until he made his debut in the play ‘The Anatomy Lesson’ in 1977. From there he built a career that gave him prestige and fame, especially for his participation in several films and television programs.

In cinema he stood out in various films such as Betibú; The Angel; Moon of Avellaneda; From the abyss; The world against me; The loves of Laurita; We all have a plan y The Creole Faust, inter alia.

Likewise, on TV his face became known from his interventions in The marginal; The kingdom; The chosen one; Murderous women; I will resist; The Rafa; The males; Guilty; Mrs. Ordoñez, The bronze garden y Romeo and Juliet.

He was also one of the founders of ‘Teatroxlaidentidad’ and in 2005 he was awarded the Podestá Prize for Honorable Career, presented by the union and the Senate of the Nation.

In addition, Fanego was a director of the AAA, since between 1988 and 1990 he held the position of Secretary of International Relations of the union under the presidencies of Duilio Marzio and Juan Carlos Dual.
