Arm has designed its own upscaling technology for mobile gaming, the circuit design company announced in a blog post.
The technology is called Arm Accuracy Super Resolution, abbreviated ASR. It’s based on AMD’s Fidelityfx Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2) – an upscaling technology where information from multiple frames is used to create a single, more detailed image.
While there are various upscaling techniques for desktop and laptop GPUs, similar techniques for mobile processors are largely unexplored terrain.
The potential benefits that ASR can bring include reduced GPU load, allowing games to run at higher frame rates and lower power consumption, resulting in improved battery life.
Arm ASR is being made available to developers under the open MIT license, and the company is now encouraging early-stage developers who want to experiment with the technology to get in touch.
