ARM revokes Qualcomm’s processor license. The company has 60 days left

Processor developer ARM has warned that it will revoke the license to use its intellectual property from Qualcomm. It made it possible to produce processors.

ARM said Qualcomm has 60 days to resolve the issue and correct the “violations.” In 2021, Qualcomm acquired the startup Nuvia, which also produced processors based on this architecture. However, his license for this was revoked back in 2023.

It is assumed that it was Nuvia’s developments that formed the basis of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Now ARM demands that we stop using them and destroy them.

Qualcomm called ARM’s actions “an attempt to put pressure on its long-time partner.”

If Qualcomm does lose its license, it will be prohibited from developing new chips based on the ARM architecture. It will also have to draw up a separate agreement for the right to release each processor model. (Bloomberg)
