Arrest warrant dismissed for hospital director and surgeon on murder charge for ’36 week abortion’

The director and surgeon of the hospital where the ’36-week abortion’ case surgery was performed escaped arrest.

On the morning of the 23rd, Chief Judge Kim Seok-beom of the Seoul Central District Court in charge of warrants dismissed all arrest warrants for Mr. Yoon, a hospital director in his 70s, and Mr. Sim, a surgeon in his 60s, who are suspected of murder, etc., after interrogating them (substantive warrant review) before their arrest.

Chief Judge Kim stated the reason for dismissal, saying, “In light of the fact that a significant amount of data on the basic facts has been collected, the fact that the suspect’s residence is constant, and other circumstances of the incident, it is difficult to recognize the necessity and reasonableness of detaining the suspect at this stage.” .

It is known that a prosecutor also attended the warrant examination on this day. If the case is serious, the prosecution attends the review of the case for which the police has applied for an arrest warrant.

Mr. Yoon and others, who came out after completing the warrant review at around 11:40 a.m. on this day, did not say anything when asked questions such as “Do you admit to the murder charge?”

According to the police, Mr. Yoon and others are suspected of killing the fetus by performing an abortion on Mr. A, a YouTuber in his 20s who became controversial after posting about his experience of having an abortion at 36 weeks of pregnancy. Police believe that the fetus died after it came out of Mr. A’s body. Mr. Yoon was also charged with failing to install a closed-circuit (CC) TV inside the operating room (violation of medical law).

Person A posted a video on June 27th claiming that she underwent an abortion at 36 weeks of pregnancy. Controversy arose over whether this was murder, as the 36-week fetus was capable of living independently outside the womb, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare requested the police to investigate.

Police have booked a total of nine people in connection with this incident and are investigating.
