Arrested suspect for the murder of Ian Cameron, former designer of Rolls-Royce

The suspect is a twenty-two-year-old young man of Serbian nationality, who was arrested in his apartment northeast of Paris.

French police have arrested a suspect in a fatal knife attack on former Rolls-Royce designer Ian Cameron.

Seventy-four-year-old Cameron was found at his home in Hersching in southern Germany, near Lake Amerze, after being stabbed on July 12.

A 22-year-old Serb was arrested by members of French special police units on July 18, Upper Bavaria police announced on July 19.

Cameron’s wife, also a designer, Verena Kloss, fled the property and alerted police, who followed the unnamed suspect from Hershing, through Munich, Innsbruck, Austria, and Zurich, France.

“The valuable information provided after the public manhunt helped quickly identify the suspect,” said Manfred Frei, police chief in Firstenfeldbruck near Hersching.

The motive of the attack was not disclosed.

BMW expressed “deep shock and sadness” over the death of the designer, who worked for the Bavarian company for most of his career.

Cameron retired from Rolls-Royce in 2012, after overseeing the design of a series of ultra-luxury cars that resurrected the British marque after its takeover by BMW in 2003, starting with the Phantom. Kameron joined BMW in 1992.

“Ian played a significant role in shaping Rolls-Royce following its takeover by the BMW Group and returning home to Goodwood in West Sussex,” Rolls-Royce said.

The head of the British brand, Chris Brownbridge, echoed the announcement on LinkedIn, saying he was saddened by the news.

After leaving BMW, the tragic designer founded a freelance design consulting firm called Ian Cameron Design Partners.
