Asian titles rule the game Oscar nominations

Just like movies, games also have their Oscars, i.e. prestigious awards for the best of the best. These are awarded annually under the auspices of the Game Awards event, and this year will be no different. The event will take place around mid-December and the nominations have now been officially announced. Who has a chance to fight his way among the cream of the game?

The Game Awards: Dozens of games and categories

In total, winners will be chosen in 29 categories, and the main one is, of course, the Game of the Year. This is followed by other major categories, such as Best Story, Direction, Visuals or Best Indie Game, and titles are also distributed across individual game genres. So we will see the announcement of the best action game or the best RPG.

This year, the nominations are dominated by the Asian games, which have been very successful this year. In the Game of the Year category, out of the six nominated titles, there is only one game that does not come from Asia, namely the card game Balatro. The rest of the games (Astro Bot, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio) are from Asia.

Unfortunately, without a Czech trace

The Czech gaming scene is highly recognized worldwide, and several interesting projects are created and published here every year. Unfortunately, none of them made it into the nomination this year, although there would definitely be a purely Czech game that would at least deserve a nomination. Maybe we’ll be luckier in a year, because Kingdom Come: Deliverance II could easily compete in several categories.

You can find the complete list of nominated games in this video and from other categories it is worth mentioning, for example, the most anticipated games of 2025. Here, expected hits such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Monster Hunter Wilds and, of course, GTA 6 made it to the final five. There is probably no doubt about who will win this particular category.

When and where to watch the Game Awards?

The Game Awards gala will take place on December 12 in Los Angeles. Due to the time difference, it will be possible to watch this event with us on December 13, more specifically at 01:30 after midnight, and the broadcast will be available on the official YouTube channel action. The first award ceremony under the banner of the Game Awards took place in 2014, so this year we are already in the 11th year.
