Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education(Superintendent Taehee Lim) announced on the 29th that on the 28th, the ‘2024 Second Half Secondary English Teacher Capacity Building Training’ was held at Goyang Sono Calm to increase teachers’ curriculum design capabilities following the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks.

For the stable introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks for English, math, and information subjects in 2025 (3rd and 4th grades of elementary school, 1st year of middle school, and 1st year of high school), training was prepared to discuss teaching methods suited to the characteristics of the English subject.

This training was attended by about 120 middle and high school English teachers and was jointly operated with the Creative English Classroom Design Research Group.

In the keynote lecture, Professor Jeong Young-sik of Jeonju National University of Education emphasized the need for a groundbreaking change in the classroom in the digital age under the theme of ‘Future education with artificial intelligence, what should we learn and how should we teach it?’ and presented the expertise that teachers need as educational experts.

In the afternoon training that followed, teachers participated in two courses they had registered for in advance out of a total of six courses. Based on our understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks, we designed an English curriculum centered on learner participation that reflects the individual characteristics and needs of students.

The training includes △Digital Hongik Ingan Project △Project class using generative artificial intelligence △Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital textbook that can be learned in advance through AI courseware △Necessity of artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbook in English education △Inside our culture and world -An English speaking class that anyone can confidently challenge. △Conducted with digital and artificial intelligence classes and evaluations to implement high-touch, high-tech.

An English teacher who participated in the training said, “It was good because there was a lot of content that could be applied at school because it focused on lesson design methods using artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks rather than simply training to learn functions.”

Hyun Gye-myeong, head of the Convergence Education Policy Department at the Provincial Office of Education, said, “There is a gap in academic ability between students in English, so a learning environment tailored to the student’s ability and speed is needed. Learning to maximize student learning performance by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) digital textbooks. “I hope that the concept will be implemented and the essence of classes, such as student-tailored classes, concept-based inquiry learning, and cooperative classes, will be strengthened,” he said.
