An assassination took place in Russia’s Moscow region. An officer who had recently returned from the front was killed by gunfire.
A Russian officer was murdered in the village of Melenki, east of Moscow, who had only recently returned to his hometown from the front in Ukraine. According to the Russian news agency TASS, he was the victim of an assassination attempt, with the gunman allegedly waiting for him in an ambush. It was supposed to be a planned murder, in which the assassin shot him when Klenkov was driving around the village in a car. He is said to have fired at least three shots at him through the side window, and the car continued its journey uncontrollably and crashed into the fence of one of the houses there.
According to the Russian independent IStories portal, the victim of the assassination was a 44-year-old man Nikita Klenkova senior officer in Russia’s GRU military intelligence service, who returned from fighting in Ukraine only a week ago. He is said to be the deputy commander of one of the special forces units. There is no official confirmation of the victim’s identity yet. The assassination is said to have taken place about a 20-minute drive from the local special forces training ground. The investigation is still ongoing, with investigators establishing all the circumstances of the crime and a possible motive.
