Assessment of Fingrid: Industrial solar power is increasingly gaining ground – “Welcome addition”

Solar power is a welcome addition to Finland’s energy palette, says Fingrid’s head of strategic network planning Mikko Heikkilä In the Markkinaraati program.

According to Heikkilä, solar panels benefit not only the consumers themselves, but also the entire Finnish electricity system.

“They are starting to show here at the system level. So this solar power is a very welcome addition to this Finnish energy palette. And now certainly in the coming years, this industrial solar power will also make more and more progress in Finland”, Heikkilä estimates.

Finnish households’ electricity consumption has decreased by 27 percent between 2016 and 2023, according to Statistics Finland’s consumption survey.

A significant item of consumption is heating, and Heikkilä also says that he acquired an air source heat pump during the energy crisis in order to reduce electricity consumption.

“It’s a really effective support in a detached house with electric heating.”

General Secretary of the Consumers’ Association Juha Beurling-Pomoell reminds us that energy saving is an effective way to save on the electricity bill, regardless of the form of the electricity contract.
