At the beginning of the year, Asus released the lavish keyboard Rog Azoth which offered a 75% layout, replaceable switches and monochrome OLED panel where the price tag was SEK 2,500. Now the company is launching The Extreme version of the keyboard which offers colorful OLED display for $499.
The fact that the OLED panel has been replaced with a colorful one is of course not the only news. Asus has worked to improve the construction with a stabilization plate in carbon fiber and more vibration dampening foam layers. The switches are Rog NX switches and can be replaced just like in the previous version.
Something that can change the clicking experience regardless of which switch is used is a physical slider that causes the buttons to be pushed up to the default position at different speeds, which can be good to switch between if you are going to play or type. Furthermore, the Extreme version comes with an extended wrist rest and more magnetic feet that allow you to adjust the angle.
Just like its predecessor, Azoth Extreme can be used with a 2.4Hz dongle, bluetooth or via cable. In wireless mode, the keyboard can be used for up to 1,600 hours, which means you can use it for up to 200 days if you use it for about 8 hours a day. For a fast connection between computer and keyboard, you have the option to turn the polling rate up to 8,000 Hz, which works both with the wireless dongle and cable.
Full-color pek-OLED
The big news is of course the colorful OLED panel. It’s shrunk from 2 inches to 1.47 inches, but lets you display various information in tons of colors and can be navigated with your finger. It is possible to show various animations, system info, battery level and other little things that can be good to have on the keyboard.
Rog Azoth has received good reviews, but whether the high price tag makes the Extreme version twice as good remains to be seen. There is no release date at the moment, but should appear in stores shortly. The price tag will land north of 5,000 kroner in Sweden, so if it is between buying a new keyboard or a stable graphics card in the mid-range, it may be more worthwhile to focus on the graphics card.
