We looked at what the manufacturer’s latest, high-end gamer accessory can do.
Packaging, external
When we think of a serious gamer PC, the first thing that probably comes to mind is a powerful processor, a decent amount of RAM, and an amazingly powerful graphics card, but for users who take the game seriously, the story doesn’t stop there. An important part of a serious setup is a suitable keyboard, a good mouse, a quality mouse pad and a comfortable headset. The latter is perhaps the least neglected of the listed peripherals, the majority of gamers pay attention to having a comfortable headset on their head, and some of them are even willing to reach deep into their pockets for quality. Accordingly, top-shelf products can be found in the range of major manufacturers: such as the roughly HUF 100,000 ASUS ROG Delta II is.
The packaging deserves praise, because the outside is beautiful, glittering and all important information is written on it, but the inside is plain cardboard in the name of sustainability, but the parts that meet the headphones are lined with sponge. The factory accessories are correct, but we may have a feeling of lack: in addition to the indispensable documentation, two extra ear cushions, a 2.4 GHz receiver with USB Type-C connector and a Type-C/Type-A converter, a 2-meter jack-jack cable and a 1.6-meter USB Type-C cable are included with the headphones, the latter are black and fabric-covered, of good quality. However, for this price, a carrying case could have fit in it, or even a table holder. The microphone is not a fixed part of the device, so it has a separate place in the box.
The microphone is attached to the headset with a flexible 3.5 mm jack connector that is approximately 14 centimeters long. There are two of these on the Delta II, the microphone is for the left side: its connector has a unique shape, but this allows the microphone to be connected to the other side as well (it just won’t work that way), only a straight cable won’t fit in place of the microphone . The design is also a bit strange, the sponge at the end of the microphone is less high-tech and not necessarily justified for this use. Of course, it can be removed, but in this case, two silver-colored microphone grills will stare at us, which does not suit the headset in the slightest, because this color is not echoed anywhere else. On the positive side, there is an LED at the end, which lights up in red when it is muted, which can be checked easily at any time by looking down.
The quality of materials used and assembly is first class. The stems are made of metal, they are extremely finely adjustable, and although the headset cannot be folded, the parts that sit on the ears can be folded in, so it can also be worn around the neck. The entire structure is sufficiently flexible, the top of the stem is covered with leather-like material on the outside, and the Republic of Gamers inscription is also baked into it. The same part is soft on the inside, not spongy, but rather gel-like, allowing extremely comfortable use. The weight of the device with 50 millimeter drivers is 318 grams, which is about the same as other high-end models, but still feels quite light considering its quality.
The on-ear units are no longer made of metal, but of plastic, and the quality cannot be compromised here either. The factory-installed ear cushions are made of synthetic polyurethane leather, if you don’t like it, you can replace them with the fabric cushions in the box. For home use, we preferred the latter, it is inherently more comfortable for people with glasses, but in loud environments, during offline competitions, it is worth using the leather version, because it lets in less external noise. There is no active noise filtering, so you shouldn’t expect miracles in terms of noise isolation, but the device still delivers the level resulting from the closed design.
The connectors and controls are located at the bottom of the speaker housings, and there’s quite a bit of stuff here. On the left side, there is a high-quality, circular volume control wheel, which can be pressed to turn the microphone on and off. Next to it is the slide switch for turning on the 2.4 GHz wireless mode, as well as a function button with an LED. Press it once to stop the music, double press to go to the next track, press three times to bring up the previous track, press for 5 seconds to turn the lights off and on, and press for 15 seconds to bring up the factory settings. On this side is the USB Type-C connector, which is used to charge the device, and here is the 3.5 mm jack for the microphone.
There is also a wheel on the right side, this adjusts the volume in Bluetooth mode, plus there is also a function button here, when moving and stopping the numbers, the operation is the same as on its brother, but here it is only 3 seconds from a long press, which is the Bluetooth turns it on and off. You must also use this button during a call, you can press it once to answer an incoming call, or end an active call in the same way. You can also reject an incoming call by pressing it twice. The 3.5 mm jack for analog connection has also been placed on this side.
