The hardware of this elegant notebook with the full type designation ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA507NV-LP111W consists of a tandem AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS processor and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics chip.
The lid with the display is metal, the rest of the body is made of high-quality plastic. As for durability, it meets the requirements of the MIL-STD-810H military standard. The designers opted for an elegant and relatively inconspicuous design without flashing colored elements. There is a rather inconspicuous TUF GAMING logo on the display cover. Behind the display cover on the hinge are four LED indicators arranged in an interesting star pattern. When you open the laptop, you can tell that it is a gaming machine, mainly thanks to the translucent “gaming” keys. The on/off button has an interesting irregular hexagonal shape. Of course, there is RGB backlighting of the keys, even if only in one zone. The aforementioned WASD keys are backlit on the entire surface, so the left hand can intuitively find them even in a well-darkened gaming “den”. The other keys have a backlit circuit and, of course, also symbols. The bottom wall also has an interesting design, which is not only attractive, but is designed so that the openings allow a controlled supply of air to the cooling fans. The fans also draw air from above through the keyboard. The cooling system with two fans and heat pipes is sufficiently dimensioned.
The dimensions of the notebook are given by the 15.6-inch display, so there is still room for a numeric keyboard, although its keys are a little narrower. The cursor keys are half the height, but the WASD keys are still used for this purpose in games. The stroke of the keys is long enough, approximately 2 mm, so controlling games from the keyboard and typing are accurate. The springy resistance of the keys could be a bit stronger considering that this is a gaming laptop. There are also four separate multimedia keys above the keyboard. The touchpad without hardware buttons has a smooth surface, so gestures on it are accurate.
The display with a diagonal of 15.6 inches and a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz is a good choice for the used NVIDIA RTX 4060 graphics chip. Although it would “tighten” 2K resolution, but with a lower frame rate in graphically demanding scenes. The matte surface of the display panel effectively eliminates glare. I measured 280 nits in the center of the screen, 252 nits in the corners, which the human eye has no chance of distinguishing, so the image appears evenly backlit. The manufacturer declares 100% coverage of the sRGB color space.
The AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS processor (codename Rembrandt) with Zen 3+ architecture has six cores on which 12 threads can run. Under normal load, it is clocked at 3.3 GHz, while the working frequency range is up to 4.55 GHz. Although it is a processor intended for mobile devices, the TDP (Thermal Design Power) parameter of 35 W with the possibility of a short-term increase to 54 W indicates high performance, of course, only if the cooling system can remove this lost heat.
The tested model had 16 GB of RAM available. 32 GB would certainly be more appropriate for a gaming laptop, but currently 16 GB is also enough for more demanding games, which will use the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics. The advantages of the powerful graphics card will also be used by content creators in graphic or engineering applications, or editing applications videos enabling GPU acceleration.
The speaker grills are directed downwards and obliquely to the sides, and the sound is also of relatively high quality for normal purposes, thanks to the relatively high feet, you will definitely use headphones or external speakers to enjoy the booming effects in games.
Most of the ports are on the left side, on the right side there is only one USB-A port, which is practical for connecting a mouse or game controller, for example. On the left side there is a power connector, an RJ-45 (Ethernet) connector, an HDMI connector, two USB-C ports, a USB-A port and an audio connector. Of course, it supports the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard and bluetooth 5.3.
I tried several games of different genres and the fluidity of the display pleasantly surprised me. Armory Crate software allows you to fine-tune the performance profile and other parameters. I recommend the Performance mode because it provides high performance with reasonable fan noise. Although the Turbo mode will increase the performance a little more, the noise of the fans will also increase. But when you need maximum performance, you can tolerate a little noise, moreover, it belongs to the color of the game. In the 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark test, I achieved an average score of 9765 points.
Battery life is more than 7 hours when watching video, of course, it drops adequately when playing. The package includes a 180 W power supply.
