The Tax Agency, in a joint operation with the National Police, the Italian Guardia di Finanza and Europol, have dismantled one of the largest national networks selling counterfeit 10 and 20 euro banknotes through instant messaging.

As reported by the Ministry of Finance, the operation arrested four young people who had a network of buyers and distributors of counterfeit currency throughout Spain and had begun to operate with shipments to Portugal, France and Italy. The investigation, they explain, began at the beginning of the year when it was learned of the existence of two new counterfeits of 10 and 20 euro banknotes.

The agents detected that it was a fake made in Spain and that it had spread throughout the national territory, so it was suspected that it could be marketed through the web or social networks. They also detected that they were dedicated to providing contact in Italy for those who wanted to buy counterfeit bills of other face values ​​such as 50 and 100 euros.

They sold the “recipe”

Likewise, they were able to verify that they made information about the method for manufacturing counterfeit bills available to certain people and sold the “recipe” in exchange for a percentage of the profits they obtained from the sale of each of the bills.

During the time in which they were operating with counterfeit currency, they could have introduced more than 3,600 pieces of counterfeit 10 and 20 euro bills into the financial circuit, adding up to an amount greater than 60,000 euros, the note adds.

In the main homes of those investigated, 67 counterfeit 50 euro bills, sheets of unfinished 10 and 20 euro bills, 10 printers, mobile phones, computer equipment, storage devices, paper cutting guillotines, ink cartridges were seized. , special paints and lacquer. Much of the material with which the banknotes were manufactured had been acquired in China. The investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.
