At least 11 dead and 48 injured in a bombing in the center of Beirut

At least 11 people have been killed and 48 injured in an Israeli bombing in central Beirut. The attack hit the Ras Al Naba neighborhood, a highly populated area far from the suburbs where most attacks against the Hizbullah militia take place.

The explosion caused a large column of smoke visible from all parts of the city. Rescue teams are now working to rescue victims under the rubble.

The Israeli attacks in Beirut targeted “at least one Hizbullah figure,” Reuters reported, citing a Lebanese security source, although it did not reveal the identity of the militant.

For its part, the Israeli channel Channel 12 affirms that the offensive was directed against the head of the Shiite group’s coordination unit, Wafic Safa. At the moment, the Israeli army command has not made any statement in this regard.

This is the third time Beirut, outside the southern suburbs, has been targeted by Israel since the start of the conflict. A targeted attack killed members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in Cola on September 30. Then an attack hit a Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Committee (IHC) center in Bashoura last week, killing seven of its members as well as two civilians.
