Atelier Cafe in Cluj hosts a live kaleidoscope of krautrock, pop, trap and electronica on November 6

deathbycoconut, ricky horror, Suce Fraga and Ana Sechereș (DJ set) compose a spectacular lineup proposed to the Cluj platform audience MELODYdedicated to exploring the underground scene with futuristic sensibilities in Romania.

In the evening of Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Atelier Cafe FROM Cluj-Napoca hosts the platform’s last national stopover MELODYafter a two-month marathon that brought almost 30 performers and DJs from the Romanian independent scene in front of the public in Timisoara, Brasov, Bucharest, IASI and the German city Hamburg.

The event will start at 20.00 and will include three concerts – deathbycoconut (krautrock), ricky horror (avant-pop) and Fraga happens (trap, r&b) – and a branded DJ set Ana Secheres. Although they cross a multitude of musical styles, the artists who will perform at Atelier Cafe share an intuition for extravagant sounds and rhythms that make the body dance and advertise themselves from the fringes of contemporary club culture.

Tot la Atelier Cafe: a MELODIY atelier

The workshop is dedicated to young music lovers from Cluj, but also to curious people of all ages. Access is free, based on registration. To be able to participate, fill out the form here or send a message on Instagram @melodiyplatform.

Who are the organizers?

MELODIY is a cultural project that aims to amplify the independent scene in Romania and connect it with the most diverse categories of public – both in the country and abroad – through concerts, DJ sets, workshops and related events centered on innovative practices and artistic niches underrepresented in the local offer.

Oriented towards new practices and methods of composition and production, such as do-it-yourself/ DIY (do it yourself, nt), located until recently on the edge of the dominant cultural circuit, it proposes an exploration ground for new and nonconformist sound potentials.

Who are the guest artists?

deathbycoconut is a band made up of five musicians from Bucharest, active both solo and in other group projects: Suce Fraga (vocals, bass, keyboards), Nitchji Oh (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Domnul Valentin (drums), Horațiu Șerbănescu/ Plevna (keyboards, guitar, bass) and Alex Bălă (keyboards). They combine krautrock, electronica, post punk and a palette of non-western influences in a sonic universe impossible to frame.

ricky horror it’s a pop musical project about friendships with non-human and human animals, too many saturnine lessons and the haunting of hetero spaces.

Fraga she is a self-taught musician and producer who easily crosses different genres of electronica, trap, hip-hop, r&b and no-step groove. Her voice coagulates all these influences, ultimately rendering a very personal, yet unusually coherent universe.

Ana Sechereș he has been a selector on the Bucharest stage for several years now and occasionally on the international stage. She performs regularly in local clubs and the rest of the time she keeps busy by organizing live shows or hosting the Avoidance of Séance party series and the monthly show of the same name for Black Rhino Radio. She has done cultural journalism, photography, live streams and is still interested in everything that can be called underground.

Esosu he’s a musician and vocalist from Bucharest who grew up with a varied musical diet. His creations echoes of early house, electro and disco music reinterpreted on a new school rap base with lyrics that maintain a warm, positive vibe, communicating parts of his inner world and emotions condensed into sometimes funny, sometimes cryptic formulations.
