The victory against Casper Ruud allows the Italian tennis player to remain at the top of the world tennis rankings until the end of the Australian Open. A goal that arrived not only thanks to the success against the Norwegian (with the blue defending the points won last year) but also thanks to the defeat of the number 2 in the world, Sasha Zverev who stopped in the semifinals.

Jannik Sinner continues to break record after record. That first place in the world ranking that the Italian has been chasing this season and which materialized at Roland Garros, now seems to have been sewn upon himself, with the advantage over his opponents which has progressively increased. Casper Ruud was looking for a prestigious result to crown an excellent end to the season and a high-level performance at the ATP Finals where he even had the chance to beat Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. But at the end of the match with Sinner, his words describe very well what it means to take the field against the blue: “There seems to be no chance of beating Sinner, when he plays he always throws stones at you. He played really well today, he almost looks like a bodybuilder. I haven’t played against him for three years and he has improved in some ways, for me he is an inspiration even though he is younger than me but now I hope not to face him for another three years”.
Then Ruud analyzes the paragone with Djokovic: “It’s true that on television they seem to have a similar game but Jannik shoots harder than Djokovic. Of course, Nole is the best in history but at least you have the opportunity to exchange with him. Jannik on the other hand doesn’t let you breathe. With Djokovic you’re not afraid of him throwing a bomb down the line every time he hits the ball. Sinner’s was a perfect season, I hope it drops a bit next year.”
