A man named Gopinath Tripura has been arrested by the police on charges of attempted murder after raping a girl in Khagrachari. The police informed this information in a press release on Friday afternoon.
Khagrachari Sadar Police Station OC Md. Abdul Baten Mridha said that the victim girl was returning home from the shop after recharging her mobile phone at around 5:30 pm on Wednesday. At that time, a young girl named Gopinath Tripura grabbed her face and eyes and took her to a garden of 05 Mile joint farm and raped her.
At that time, when the girl stopped, he tried to strangle the girl by her neck. When the girl fell unconscious, the rapist thought she was dead and ran away. Later, the locals rescued the girl in a coma and admitted her to Khagrachari Modern District Headquarters Hospital. Currently, the girl is in a coma in the hospital.
Following the complaint of the victim’s mother, a case of rape under the Women and Child Torture Act was registered at Khagrachari police station.
The OC also said that the day after the incident, Gopinath Tripura was arrested from Perachhara of Khagrachari Sadar Upazila. Gopinath, arrested on rape charges, is the son of Alad Mohan Tripura from the same area. The arrested accused admitted his involvement in the incident during preliminary interrogation.
The accused has been sent to court. Further action as per law is pending against the accused.
