Attention! Gmail flooded with fake credit card messages

  • Gmail users have started receiving fake emails informing them that a new tab has been added
  • At first glance, they seemed like another type of fraud attempt
  • Google humbly admitted its own mistake

Gmail is the world’s most widely used e-mail box and has around 1.8 billion users. Google has also integrated its Gemini artificial intelligence into it, making its use easier and more efficient than ever before. But recently many of its users experienced an unpleasant shock. Many of them started receiving emails informing about the addition of a new payment card.

The problem was that the vast majority of recipients had not added any card to Google Wallet, mobile or elsewhere. So there was a message with an announcement “You have added a new tab to your Google Account” just another sly attempt at internet fraud trying to lure people’s bank details? Not this time. The emails came from the official Google address. And it was said to be a mistake.

“We are aware of an error that resulted in some users being falsely notified that a new payment card had been added to their Google Account. This was a bug that has been fixed,” a Google spokesperson explained to Android Authority. Everything is said to have already been resolved and users do not have to worry about their money. As with e-mails, they don’t have to respond in any way.
